Botanical Gardens

The? Botanical Gardens were established in 1950 as a research facility of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Located in Kisaichi, Katano-City, a suburb of Osaka, the Botanical Gardens have been collecting and preserving plants for the purpose of botanical research. The gardens are not only used for research but are open for anyone wishing to enjoy or learn about nature.?

Within the approximately 26 hectare gardens many plant and tree species are cultivated, including 450 species native to Japan growing in the open air and 11 types of Japanese forest. Additionally plants, trees and herbs with importance for study and research from all over the world are exhibited. Research is carried out on the evolutionary and environmental development of plants, using taxonomy, physiology, ecology and genetics. Research results are widely distributed, also to the general public, in order to contribute to the preservation of plant life and improve the future quality of life for humans.??

Many wild plants are nowadays in danger of extinction, posing a grave problem. The Botanical Gardens are putting a strong effort to preserve endangered plants especially species indigenous to the Osaka area.?

The Botanical Gardens regularly organize special viewings, lectures and many more events open for everybody.
